British Columbia Roads and Highways

BC HighwaysBC's roads are important arteries carrying people to the most picturesque areas of British Columbia. A network of government maintained roads and highways connects all the various regions of BC. The Ministry of Transportation provides up to date road conditions, including reports of weather conditions, construction zones and any other closures or disruptions. It is a good idea to visit drivebc.ca to check the route you are planning to take through British Columbia prior to embarking on your trip. The Coquihalla Highway is a toll highway that was opened to traffic in 1987 and provides a quicker, higher alternate route to the Crowsnest (Highway 3) which still exists and remains a popular, scenic means for getting between Hope and the BC / Alberta border. Be sure to carry chains when driving this route in the winter, as the summit of the Coquihalla reaches 1240 meters above sea level and can experience extreme winter weather conditions.
